Thanks, Pioneers for the Holiday

The pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on July 24th 1847... and thanks to that, today was a state holiday!  The best thing of all, Kyle had the day off so to celebrate Pioneer Day, we had a picnic in our city park.

Kyle and I shared a Subway sandwich.

Avery nibbled on cucumbers and apple slices.

She also had her first taste of orange soda.
She liked it, I think.  But mostly she wanted to chew on the straw.

*sigh*
That baby face...

Avery is definitely turning into a toddler.  Probably I should say she IS a toddler but it still hurts me to think so.  She's getting little hairs on her chubby legs.  She gets sweaty feet.  She smells kinda dirty after playing in the park.  No longer a newborn, that's for sure.

I also shared on facebook today my story of tragedy and horror that took place at the park.
Avery was playing with the wrappers from our Subway sandwich and when I took it away I was mortified to discover the paper had been crawling with ants and Avery had a MOUTHFUL of them!!  ANTS!  IN. HER. MOUTH.  I shrieked and tried to clean her up but scraping half eaten ants out of her mouth was to much for me to do alone so I started yelling for Kyle.  Apparently I created quite a scene.  Some nearby may have thought she was choking...  I'm sorry.  Perhaps my reaction was a little much, but really I still cannot even think about it without shuddering.  It was awful.

After the park we went miniature golfing at really one of the nicest miniature golf courses I've ever been to.  It didn't help me to win however...  Kyle beat me by 11 strokes.

Avery mostly did this.
Mouth agape and eyes wide.
I don't know if she was more impressed by the beautiful scenery or in shock at my horrible golfing skills.

Kyle is always a happy wiener.  I mean winner..

Before leaving, we checked out some arcade games.  This is Avery's smashed up face against  the plexiglass top of one of the games.  Ever so classic.

Best way to end any holiday?
AND recover from a tragic miniature golf loss?
Snoasis.
Pretty much the answer to everything that's wrong in the world.

I'm telling you, the BEST snow shack ever.
I used to wait in line an hour or more to get my hands on one.
Luckily tonight we didn't have to wait so long.
Avery even got her own baby strawberry Snoasis
(and she made friends with another Avery who was there! what are the odds?)

I will give you 3 reasons why Snoasis is the absolute best:
1.  The texture of the ice is PERFECT.  Not crunchy.  It literally just melts in your mouth.
2.  They definitely don't skimp on the flavoring.
3.  CREAM!  You can get yours with CREAM!  Cream makes the world go round.  Trust me.

Happy Pioneer Day to my fellow Utahns!
