Preparing For Post

Great news: I'm taking tomorrow off!  Not-so-great news: I'll be spending the day at the DMV and Social Security offices in order to officially change my name.  Its kind of a big deal you know, giving up the last name you've had your whole life.  Wish me luck!

WHY IT WAS FUN TO BE A HALE:

  • Try pronouncing it like "hell" to make such phrases as "what the Hale" and "hot as Hale" slightly more amusing.

  • Is it raining outside? No! It's a "Hale-storm!" hahaha, oh I've never heard that one before...

  • My friends from Hawaii thought my name was hilarious because hale means house.  I could totally live in this hale.

  • As a Mormon, everyone thinks the name is Hales - only we're not really related to Elder Robert D. Hales.  Sorry to disappoint.

  • Wikipedia tells me that Hale is also the name of a band in the Philippines - by far my coolest claim to fame.  They even won the MTV Pilipinas Video Music Awards for Best Pop Video with "Kung Wala Ka" (I bet you didn't know that!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hale_(band)

  • Other claims to fame: Hale Center Theater, Emma Hale, Nathan Hale

  • Webster's definition: more at whole, free from defect, disease, or infirmity; also: retaining exceptional health and vigor

COOL THINGS WITH THE NAME POST:
  • My favorite: Post Cereals.  I was, however, rather disappointed to find out that I actually don't even like any Post cereals.  If I had to choose one, it would be Honey Bunches of Oats, only I don't like flaky cereal so I would only pick out the bunches.  I feel that Post Cereals anticipated my dilemma and created the new, "Just Bunches" cereal.  Once I become a Post for real, I'm totally going to try it.

  • Post Office: Did you know that Benjamin Franklin was appointed the first Postmaster General in 1775?  Even though the Post Office is supposedly not doing very well and is constantly raising prices, its just one of those things that you expect to always be there and to always be relatively reliable.  Hey, it could be worse... we could be in Canada. (watch Ben Franklin on "The Office," only the best tv show ever made)

  • Post Secret http://postsecret.blogspot.com/ If you haven't seen this, its pretty interesting, I think.  Its basically a collection of people's secrets they anonymously write on post cards.

  • Emily Post was an American author who wrote a lot about etiquette and manners.  Her lasting influence on modern American culture remains debatable.  Perhaps I should read up on them so-called manners.

  • Sorry Post Cereals, I lied.  Post-it notes are my favorite!  Not only are they an ingenious invention that I use every single day of my life as a secretary, but they are part of the office supply family: of which, I am very fond.  I could spend hours in Office Depot searching for a reason to fill my house with more highlighters, sharpies, plastic organizers, and Post-it notes.  Mmmm.... office supplies.  Did I mention that one of my favorite smells is freshly copied paper?  Clearly the clerical world was, for me, a match made in heaven.  I love you Post-it note...

Awww... no more "sister hale"... Bitter-sweet!! Congrats on getting married!! I read your post from before and I know EXACTLY what you mean! I had NEVER heard of a dorky BLOG before my mission. It was actually my husband (then boyfriend) who started ours and tried to get me to post. I thought it was L-A-M-E! And now... I'm ALL over it! I love blogging now. :)

PS-this is Sister Thompson... now Larsen.

Hale comment: you forgot "Hale, Hale, the gang's all here!" Brother Bench sings it everytime he sees us. It's seriously getting old.

I just finished a bowl of "Just Bunches" and the only reason I bought it was because of this post...Haha...post. Anyway...it's decent. I think it makes a great granola. Sprinkling some on some yogurt would be a great combo!
